Nirwana Tuinfeest celebrates 50th anniversary in Lierop

The Nirwana Tuinfeest in Lierop has commenced its 50th edition, marking a milestone for the festival that began in 1972 as a small village fair with folk music on a flatbed cart. Despite high temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius on the first day, the event drew significant crowds.

Performances during the opening included Jett Rebel, Fresku, SOWT, HIQPY, and Eurosjopper. The festival has evolved from a local gathering into an international platform that has hosted major names such as Kensington, Danny Vera, The Stranglers, and The Kooks.

Organizers and former board members emphasize a philosophy of ‘growing by staying small,’ aiming to maintain the intimate atmosphere and community spirit that has defined the event for five decades.
