NIS receives US OFAC license extension until September 30
The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has extended the operating license for Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) until September 30. This extension allows the company to continue its core activities, including crude oil imports, refinery operations at the Pančevo facility, technical maintenance, and financial settlements.
Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović stated that the extension is a signal of progress in the ongoing negotiations to resolve NIS's ownership structure. The negotiations involve Hungarian energy company MOL, which is seeking to acquire the 56.15 percent majority stake currently held by Gazprom Neft.
Additionally, OFAC has extended the license for JANAF, the Croatian pipeline operator, to ensure continued cooperation with NIS for oil transport. The Pančevo refinery has recently increased its processing capacity to approximately 13,000 tons per day to meet rising diesel demand, which reached roughly 200,000 tons in August.
