Niš's Pantelej municipality railway bypass plan sparks resident protests

The Pantelej municipality in Niš presented a new General Regulation plan that includes building a horseshoe‑shaped overpass over the railway bypass on Borska Street. Residents attended the presentation demanding that the planned high‑speed international line be moved away from the Vinik neighbourhood, arguing the track would run less than 40 metres from their homes at speeds of 120‑160 km/h, potentially carrying hazardous materials.

Citizens criticized outdated design studies that ignore current urban development, noise, vibration and safety concerns. They called on the Ministry of Transport and Serbian Railways to intervene, while municipal mayor Dragan Pavlović accused opposition councilors of using the event for political campaigning.
