NISA investment strategies and credit card accumulation in Japan

Investors utilizing the New NISA system in Japan are increasingly using credit card accumulation services to earn reward points on their investment trust purchases. Various credit cards, such as those from Mitsui Sumitomo, Rakuten, and au PAY, offer different point redemption rates and compatible securities companies like SBI Securities and Rakuten Securities.

However, changing brokerage accounts or investment settings requires careful timing. To change a securities company, notifications must typically be made between October 1 and September 30 of the preceding year. Additionally, reducing monthly accumulation amounts can result in the loss of unused tax-exempt quotas for that year, as they cannot be carried forward. When switching investment products, investors should monitor the book value and market value of their holdings to understand the impact on their tax-exempt limits.
