Nishitetsu investigates broadcast system intrusion in Fukuoka

Nishitetsu, a railway operator in Fukuoka, Japan, is investigating a security breach involving its station broadcasting systems. On August 4, between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM, unauthorized and vulgar audio files were broadcast via the public address systems at Tenjin and Yakuin stations on the Tenjin-Omuta Line.

Station staff interrupted the broadcast once the anomaly was detected, but recordings of the incident had already been made by passengers and circulated on social media. Following the incident, Nishitetsu issued an official statement on August 6, confirming that the audio was not programmed by the company and suggesting the possibility of an external unauthorized intrusion.

The company has sought assistance from law enforcement to investigate the method of entry and the identity of those responsible. Nishitetsu has pledged to strengthen security protocols and inspection processes for its broadcasting equipment to prevent future incidents.
