Nisko firefighters die in warehouse fire

Two firefighters from the Nisko District Headquarters of the State Fire Service died during a major warehouse and shop fire in Nisko, Podkarpackie. The incident occurred on Friday morning after an emergency call was received at 8:24 AM. The fire, which targeted a facility storing agricultural machinery parts, spread rapidly due to the presence of flammable materials.

During the operation, the two firefighters, identified as Junior Captain Wojciech Garbacz and Sergeant Bartłomiej Pieróg, were cut off from evacuation routes by the advancing flames. They managed to transmit a 'Rescue' signal before being trapped. Although rescue efforts were immediately launched and both were eventually extracted from the building, they could not be revived.

More than 150 firefighters participated in the operation to control the blaze and protect nearby residential buildings. The District Prosecutor's Office in Nisko has launched an investigation into the incident under Article 163 of the Penal Code, which concerns causing events that threaten life, health, or large-scale property. Authorities are working with fire experts to determine the exact cause, with preliminary assessments suggesting a possible flashover. A fundraiser has been established to support the families of the deceased.
