NISO expands partnerships to stabilize Nigeria's power sector
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) is expanding its collaborative efforts to stabilize the national electricity market and address persistent liquidity challenges. In a recent meeting, NISO and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET) agreed to deepen cooperation regarding market settlement and revenue coordination to attract necessary investment and fulfill the objectives of the Electricity Act 2023 reforms.
Additionally, NISO has pledged support to the Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission (GOSERC) to improve power supply in Gombe State. NISO aims to help the state develop business models to increase electricity access, noting that Gombe currently receives approximately 30MW despite an estimated requirement of up to 200MW. NISO officials emphasized the importance of ensuring all licensed distribution companies in the region register as market participants to maintain proper interface with the national grid.
