Nissan and Yokohama DeNA BayStars unveil new Leaf-based relief car
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and the Yokohama DeNA BayStars have unveiled a new relief car based on the third-generation Nissan Leaf electric vehicle. The vehicle is scheduled to make its official debut at Yokohama Stadium on September 22 during a game against the Chunichi Dragons.
Designed to enhance the performance and visibility of relief pitchers, the custom vehicle features several modifications. The center console has been removed to facilitate easier entry and exit, and the seat height has been adjusted so that the pitcher's expressions are more visible to fans in the stands. The exterior utilizes the ‘Lumina Turquoise’ communication color of the Leaf, harmonizing with the team’s ‘YOKOHAMA BLUE’.
The development process involved Nissan designers, engineers, and students from Nissan Automotive College. Former professional player Motonobu Tanishige observed the manufacturing process at the Nissan Technical Center, noting the manual craftsmanship involved in cutting the roof and pillars and reinforcing the frame to create a specialized seating area for players.
