Nissan launches China-built Frontier Pro pickup globally
Nissan has announced the global rollout of its new Frontier Pro pickup truck, which will be marketed as the Navara Pro in certain regions. This model marks a strategic shift for the automaker as it is the first vehicle designed, developed, and manufactured in China specifically for international export through the Zhengzhou Nissan joint venture with Dongfeng.
Sales are scheduled to begin in Mexico this October, followed by the Philippines in November. The Middle East, Latin America, and Southeast Asia are expected to receive combustion engine versions, while the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants are slated for Latin America, ASEAN, and Oceania markets. The Navara Pro is expected to arrive in Australia and New Zealand in 2027.
The PHEV model is a significant technical highlight, offering up to 410 hp and 800 Nm of torque, with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability to power external tools. Nissan Oceania managing director Steve Milette emphasized that despite its Chinese production, the vehicle is engineered to meet strict global Nissan quality standards through collaborative development involving engineers from China, Japan, and Australia.
