Nissan announces major restructuring of Japanese production network

Nissan has announced a major restructuring of its industrial network in Japan to improve efficiency and competitiveness. As part of its recovery plan, the company aims to maintain a long-term domestic production scale of approximately one million vehicles per year through optimized manufacturing and increased exports.

A key component of this strategy involves reallocating production across its primary Japanese facilities. The Tochigi plant will be transformed into a hub for high-end technology, focusing on sports cars, electric vehicles, and multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs). Specifically, Nissan will move the production of the Serena and Elgrand MPVs from its Kyushu-based plants to Tochigi to consolidate high-end manufacturing processes.

The Kyushu facilities will specialize in other segments: Nissan Motor Kyushu will serve as a hub for B-segment and C-segment models, including the Note and Kicks, while Nissan Shatai Kyushu will focus on large-scale production of full-size off-road vehicles like the Patrol and Armada. This reorganization is designed to maximize plant utilization rates and reduce research and development cycles through shared platforms and integrated technical applications.
