Nissan expands AI use and production targets in Brazil
Nissan is expanding the use of artificial intelligence at its industrial complex in Resende, Brazil. The facility, which produces the Nissan Kicks and the new Nissan Kait, currently manages 30 innovation projects involving AI, with 20 already operational. These technologies aim to increase production efficiency, improve quality control, and monitor processes in real time. Some of these solutions, developed by Brazilian teams, have been exported to Nissan factories in Mexico and the United States.
Key AI applications include intelligent energy management systems, supply chain monitoring platforms, and robots equipped with cameras for automated body inspections. The plant also utilizes a Virtual Training System that uses AI to simulate real-world operational scenarios for employee development. Additionally, the complex employs over 100 robots and more than 200 Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs) for material transport.
Looking ahead, Nissan projects a 29% increase in production for 2026, aiming for 90,000 units produced in Brazil. This growth is driven by a projected 100% increase in exports to 20 Latin American countries. To remain competitive against Chinese manufacturers, the company has shortened its global vehicle development cycle from three years to two and will import models developed in partnership with Dongfeng, including the electric Nissan N7 and the Frontier Pro PHEV.
