Nissan expands hybrid and PHEV vehicle offerings in Oceania

Nissan is expanding its vehicle lineup in the Oceania region with new hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. The company has revealed a test mule for the Navara Pro PHEV, a plug-in hybrid utility vehicle expected to arrive in New Zealand by 2027. Built by the Zhengzhou Nissan joint venture with Dongfeng, the Navara Pro features a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor in an eight-speed automatic transmission, a configuration specifically requested by the Australian team to improve towing and load capacity.

Additionally, Nissan has expanded its X-TRAIL range in Australia to mark the model's 25th anniversary. The update includes new front-wheel-drive e-POWER hybrid variants, which offer a fuel consumption rate of 5.4L/100km. The expansion also introduces the Rock Creek grade, a seven-seat petrol variant designed for increased passenger flexibility. Steve Milette, Managing Director of Nissan Oceania, noted that the company intends for the Navara PHEV to be a mass-market model rather than a niche offering.
