Automakers expand SUV and electric vehicle offerings globally
The global automotive industry is undergoing significant shifts driven by electrification and changing consumer preferences for SUVs. In Chile, Chinese brands like BYD are rapidly gaining market share, with SUVs now accounting for over 54% of new car sales. BYD is expanding its presence through large shipments of electric and hybrid vehicles.
In Honduras, Grupo Q has introduced the new Nissan Pathfinder and X-Terra to the SUV segment. Meanwhile, Nissan is targeting the compact SUV market in Chile with the launch of the KAIT model. In Argentina, BYD has officially launched the Seal 5 DM-i, a plug-in hybrid sedan offering significant fuel efficiency and range.
Technological advancements are also evident in new model releases. The Skoda Peaq electric vehicle recently achieved a record 936 km on a single charge during a test run. Additionally, BYD is introducing the Atto 3 EVO Design and the high-performance Da Han EV in China, the latter offering up to 1,008 km of autonomy. In the luxury and performance sectors, Mazda is patenting the MX-6e name, signaling a move toward electrified sports models.
