Nissan launches £3 million autonomous driving trial in Cambridge
Nissan has launched ‘ADventure’, a £3 million research project aimed at testing autonomous driving technology within real-world community settings in the United Kingdom. Supported by the UK Government, the initiative is being developed in collaboration with the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) and PAVE UK.
The project will utilize a specially adapted 2022 Nissan Leaf to conduct trials on the streets of Cambridge. Beyond technical testing, the program seeks to evaluate how autonomous mobility services can integrate with existing transport networks to address local challenges, such as improving accessibility for individuals unable to drive, including those needing transport to medical appointments.
Researchers will focus on user experience, public acceptance, and the potential for self-driving vehicles to create social value. The UK Government has indicated that the autonomous driving sector could be valued at over £30 billion within the next decade.
