Nissan launches electric Micra built on Renault 5 platform

Nissan’s sixth‑generation Micra is now offered only as an electric hatchback. It is built on the same AmpR Small platform used for the Renault 5 E‑Tech, sharing the 52 kWh battery, 150 hp motor and rear‑wheel‑under layout. Nissan distinguishes the model with its own front‑ and rear‑styling, a different cabin finish and proprietary software, but the underlying architecture remains common.

The top‑spec Micra Evolve carries the 52 kWh pack, delivering a WLTP‑type range of up to 257 miles (≈419 km) and accelerating from 0‑100 km/h in about 8 seconds. Pricing in Europe starts around €23,400 for the 120‑hp version and €28,000 for the 150‑hp version before any state incentives; in the UK the 40 kWh model is quoted at £23,000 (≈£21,500 with the EV grant) and the 52 kWh at just under £30,000 (≈£26,000 after the larger grant). Standard equipment includes dual 10.‑inch displays, heat‑pump climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a suite of driver‑assist systems, with higher trims adding heated seats, a Harman‑Kardon audio system and more advanced assistance.

Reviewers note that the Micra is comfortable, well‑built and competitively priced, yet its close resemblance to the Renault 5 makes its market positioning ambiguous, offering little clear advantage over the rival model.
