Nissan Leaf owner increases range to 400 km via battery replacement
A 2016 Nissan Leaf owner in Sweden successfully extended the vehicle's driving range from 60 kilometers to over 400 kilometers by replacing the original degraded battery with a modern 62 kWh unit.
The original 30 kWh battery had significantly lost capacity after 113,000 kilometers, a common issue for older Leaf models due to the lack of an active liquid cooling system. To resolve this, the owner purchased a specialized battery pack from Vivne, a company that provides upgraded modules for various electric vehicles, including the BMW i3.
The new battery utilizes CATL Li-NCM cells, which are designed to offer better performance in cold weather and higher resistance to heat during charging. Although the new pack is 2.5 centimeters thicker than the original, the installation was completed using specialized spacers and longer bolts, resulting in a negligible change to the vehicle's ground clearance.
