Nissan plans future GT-R revival following R35 production end
Nissan has officially concluded production of the R35 GT-R, a flagship sports car model that has been in production since 2007. Over its 18-year lifespan, approximately 48,000 units of the R35 were manufactured.
Despite the end of the R35 era, Nissan executives have expressed a commitment to reviving the GT-R nameplate. Ivan Espinosa, Nissan's head of design, has indicated a desire to bring the model back, though specific details regarding the next generation (potentially designated R36) have not been formally announced as of October 2026.
Speculation regarding the successor focuses on the ‘Hyper Force’ concept unveiled at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. This concept features an all-electric powertrain utilizing solid-state batteries and high-output motors, capable of producing approximately 1,360 horsepower. While it remains unclear if the next GT-R will be a pure battery electric vehicle (BEV) or a hybrid, the Hyper Force concept showcases advanced aerodynamics developed with NISMO and a digital interface co-developed with Polyphony Digital.
