The Nissan Skyline 2000GT‑R, introduced in 1969 as the first GT‑R, featured a specially developed 2.0‑litre S20 DOHC straight‑six engine delivering about 160 ps, far above the typical 120 ps of the era. Its racing debut earned a record 49 consecutive wins and 57 total victories in touring‑car competition before being surpassed in 1971.

The car’s historic significance has turned it into a collector’s item, with surviving examples now selling for over ¥10 million. At the 2026 “Nostalgic 2 Days” classic‑car exhibition in Yokohama, a third‑generation “box‑type” Skyline 2000GT‑R that has never undergone a road‑worthiness inspection since its 1974 production was showcased by R Factory in Tochigi. The vehicle retains its original paint, factory‑installed tires, a 1974 inspection sticker and about 20,000 km on the odometer, offering a rare glimpse of the model in its untouched, “time‑capsule” condition.
