Nissan to produce Kicks hybrid SUV in UK Sunderland plant

Nissan has announced the expansion of its European lineup with the introduction of the Kicks e-POWER, a compact B-segment crossover. To support this launch, the company is investing between £170 million and €200 million into its Sunderland plant in the United Kingdom.

The Kicks will be produced alongside existing models including the Qashqai, Juke, and Leaf. The European version will feature Nissan’s third-generation e-POWER hybrid technology, where a gasoline engine acts solely as a generator to provide electricity to a motor that drives the wheels, offering an electric-like driving experience without the need for external charging.

Globally, the Kicks has already surpassed 1.8 million units sold. In Europe, the model is expected to fill the market gap between the Juke and the Qashqai. The Sunderland facility, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, will serve as a key production hub for the UK, Europe, and Turkey markets.
