Nissan to phase out piano-black interior trim in new vehicles
Nissan has announced it is moving away from the use of piano-black gloss trim in its vehicle interiors. The decision, described by Ponz Pandikuthira, Nissan North America senior vice president and chief planning officer, as consumer-driven, addresses common complaints regarding the material's tendency to attract fingerprints, dust, and visible scratches.
In addition to phasing out gloss-black plastic, Nissan is also moving away from traditional bright chrome. The company intends to replace it with dark chrome, subtle paint treatments, and potentially wrap-style finishes to achieve a more sophisticated look. The 2027 Rogue Hybrid for the US market and the recently unveiled Pixo for the European market are among the first models to reflect these design changes.
