Nissan prepares budget electric Wave hatchback for European market

Nissan is preparing to launch the Wave, a budget-friendly electric hatchback, in Europe during the first half of 2027. Recent road tests in southern Spain have captured images of the camouflaged prototype.

Built on the AmpR Small platform, the Wave shares significant architecture with the Renault Twingo but will feature a distinct Nissan design language, including unique headlights and rear styling. The vehicle is expected to feature a 27.5 kWh LFP battery and a 60 kW motor, providing an estimated WLTP range of over 250 kilometers. Nissan aims to price the model below 20,000 euros to compete with low-cost Chinese manufacturers like BYD and Leapmotor.

Separately, Nissan is working on a significant update for its Qashqai SUV, expected for 2028. This next generation will focus on enhanced hybrid technology and a more digitalized interior cockpit rather than a purely electric powertrain, responding to shifting market demands and economic conditions.
