Nissin York to launch low-sugar Pilkul 400 in Japan

Nissin York Co., Ltd. has announced the launch of ‘Amakunai Pilkul 400’ (Not Sweet Pilkul 400), a new variation of its lactic acid bacteria drink, scheduled for release on September 28, 2026, across Japan (excluding Okinawa).

Developed in response to consumer feedback regarding the high sweetness of traditional lactic acid drinks, this new version contains 50% less sugar and calories compared to the standard Pilkul 400. The beverage features the NY1301 lactic acid bacteria strain, designed to reach the intestines alive. To maintain a rich flavor profile despite the reduction in sugar, the company added condensed milk to provide body and a clean finish.

In consumer testing, over 90% of respondents described the taste as not sweet, and 77% found it easy to drink. The product is positioned as a healthier option for adults looking to incorporate lactic acid bacteria into their daily routines without the heavy sweetness of conventional options.
