NITDA and CAL-MAJ Foundation Expand Digital Inclusion in Nigeria

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the CAL-MAJ Foundation have deepened a partnership that began in 2017 to bridge Nigeria’s digital divide. Their joint effort established a Knowledge Access Centre at Asma’u Community Academy in Unyi‑Ogugu, Olamaboro Local Government Area, Kogi State, providing computers and internet connectivity to students who previously had to travel to other states for digital resources. The project has supported more than 1,000 children, with beneficiaries such as John Ojodale Joseph progressing from the community school to university.

During a recent visit to NITDA’s headquarters in Abuja, CAL‑MAJ’s executive director Faith Ayegba called for an expanded collaboration that would include Train‑the‑Trainer programmes in advanced fields like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, replacement of ageing equipment, and greater integration with NITDA’s National Digital Literacy Framework. NITDA’s director of Digital Development Services, Olawumi Olatunji, affirmed the agency’s commitment to scaling digital literacy for schools, farmers and artisans across the country, while noting that funding remains a major challenge for maintaining connectivity at over 1,700 digital centres nationwide.
