NITDA moves to accelerate Nigerian Startup Act incentives
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), through its subsidiary the Office of Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI), is working to accelerate the implementation of incentives under the Nigerian Startup Act. During a co-creation session in Abuja, stakeholders discussed practical measures to translate the legislation into tangible benefits for the country’s innovation ecosystem.
Representing NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa, ONDI National Coordinator Victoria Fabunmi emphasized that the nation must transition from policy design to operational delivery. While structural milestones like the Startup Consultative Forum and a digital startup portal have been established, the success of the Act will be measured by how easily founders can access promised resources and relief.
To achieve this, NITDA is calling for stronger inter-agency collaboration and cooperation between government agencies and private-sector organizations. The goal is to eliminate institutional bottlenecks and ensure that the various mandates and policy instruments of participating institutions are coordinated to improve the operating environment for Nigerian startups.
