Niterói and Uruguay partner for first bilingual public school

Niterói has established a partnership with the government of Uruguay to implement the first bilingual Portuguese and Spanish public school in its municipal network. The Escola Municipal Dom José Pereira Alves, located in Vila Ipiranga, Fonseca, will serve as the pilot unit for this initiative.

The cooperation agreement, signed by Niterói Mayor Rodrigo Neves and Uruguayan officials including Minister of Education and Culture José Carlos Mahía and the president of the Administración Nacional de Educación Pública (ANEP), Pablo Caggiani, aims to strengthen Latin American integration.

The program includes continuous training for teachers, student and teacher exchanges with Uruguayan cities, and student certification. It is designed to expand Spanish language and culture instruction while strengthening full-time education models within the municipal system.
