Niterói Begins R$1.38 Million Feasibility Study for Light Rail Project
The municipality of Niterói, Brazil, has authorized the Technical, Economic and Environmental Feasibility Study for a proposed Light Rail (VLT) system. The study, financed with a R$1.38 million contract awarded to Sinergia Estudos e Projetos Ltda., started on 20 July and is scheduled to finish by 20 February 2027.
The evaluation will examine possible routes, passenger demand, construction and operating costs, urban and environmental impacts, integration with other transport modes, and financing alternatives. No construction will occur during this phase; the results will guide the city’s next decisions on whether and how to implement the VLT.
The outcome is intended to inform future planning steps for Niterói’s urban mobility, including potential station locations, timelines, and funding strategies.
