Niterói Municipal Guard arrests robbery suspect and announces expansion

The Niterói Municipal Guard (GCM) apprehended a suspect following an armed robbery in the Charitas region. The incident began when a victim reported being robbed of a cell phone by two armed men on Avenida Visconde do Rio Branco.

Following a tactical search involving night preventive patrol teams, officers located the suspects near the Charitas-Cafubá Tunnel. One man was detained and taken to the 79th DP in Icaraí, where the stolen phone was recovered.

Separately, the Niterói administration has announced plans to decentralize the Municipal Guard by establishing new headquarters in the city center and the Oceanic Region. The city aims to expand the force from 915 to 1,000 agents and is preparing a new training center to provide specialized courses in areas such as school patrolling, traffic, and conflict mediation.
