Niterói: Family donates organs of man killed in police shooting

The family of 26-year-old Danilo Jander Francisco Alves has authorized the donation of his organs following his death in Niterói, Brazil. Alves, a kitchen assistant, was shot in the head during a police approach in the Icaraí neighborhood.

The incident occurred during an operation by the ‘Niterói Presente’ program. While the Military Police stated the shooting was an involuntary reaction after the motorcyclist allegedly moved toward his waist, a witness claimed Alves had already stopped and raised his hands. No illicit items were found on the victim during the search.

The organ procurement, which included the heart and pancreas, was conducted via helicopter by the Rio de Janeiro State Health Secretariat. The officer responsible for the shot has been arrested, and the Homicide Police Station is investigating the circumstances of the encounter.
