Niterói launches environmental charter with Marina Silva
Niterói Mayor Rodrigo Neves and federal deputy Marina Silva launched the ‘Carta Niterói’ (Niterói Charter) in Itaipu on Wednesday. The document serves as an official collaborative commitment to sustainability, sustainable development, and climate justice, with a specific focus on protecting the Atlantic Forest.
The charter originated from the ‘Caminhos de Niterói’ summit held in December 2025, where leaders from various Latin American cities signed the agreement. During the event, Marina Silva emphasized the necessity of climate stability for agriculture, industry, and human life, noting that the world is already experiencing the consequences of climate change.
The launch event included various public officials and political figures, including former Niterói Mayor Axel Grael and Carlos Minc.
