Niterói launches sports management program and animal protection network

The city of Niterói unveiled the "Niterói Campeã" initiative, a program aimed at training managers of local sports projects and helping them meet the requirements of Brazil's Sports Incentive Law. The plan includes a digital registration platform, mapping of community sport entities, an eight‑hour in‑person training session on August 20, and technical mentorship for ten selected organisations to improve documentation and funding applications.

In a related municipal effort, Niterói announced the "Rede Caramelo" animal‑protection policy. The program creates a new Municipal Veterinary Hospital scheduled to open in 2027, a Centre for Wild Animal Care, financial support for temporary shelters of mistreated animals, and upgrades to existing services such as the mobile sterilisation unit and the Centre for Population Control of Domestic Animals. Mayor Rodrigo Neves said the network "strengthens a public policy of care and protection for animals" and expands access to veterinary care for pet owners.
