Niterói recognized internationally for community culture program

The city of Niterói has received international recognition for its community culture policy. The Brotaí – Community Culture Network Program was selected as a ‘good practice’ at the 7th edition of the CGLU International Award – Mexico City – Culture 21, a major global award for local cultural policies.

Developed by the Niterói City Hall through the Municipal Secretariat of Cultures, the Brotaí program is described as the largest cultural decentralization action in the municipality's history. It promotes artistic training, production, and dissemination across various city territories, expanding cultural access through workshops, shows, and exhibitions aimed at strengthening community initiatives.

The award was announced by United Cities and Local Governments (CGLU) from a pool of 59 candidates worldwide. Other winners in the ‘City/Local or Regional Government’ category included São Paulo and Ramallah, Palestine, while Recife and Salvador received special mentions from the International Jury.
