Niterói to launch first zero-fare municipal bus line

Niterói is set to introduce its first municipal bus line with zero fare, known as Linha Alimentadora AL01. The route will provide free round-trip service between the Jardim das Paineiras housing complex and the central Badu region in Pendotiba.

The initiative was formalized through Portaria SEMOBI nº 60/2026, signed by the municipal Secretary of Mobility and Infrastructure, Renato Barandier. The Consórcio Transoceânico, which manages regional collective transport, has up to 45 days from the official publication to begin operations, with a projected start date in early December.

The service specifically targets residents of the Jardim das Paineiras complex, a Minha Casa, Minha Vida development consisting of 540 apartments for low-income and vulnerable families. The project follows significant municipal investment to complete the housing units after previous construction delays.
