Nithya Raman affirms partnership with DSA in Los Angeles mayoral race
Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman has addressed her relationship with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), describing the organization as a partner in her legislative work. Raman, a current City Councilwoman, noted that the DSA has been a significant voice in her efforts regarding tenant protections and charter reform.
When questioned about the DSA’s concept of “co-governance”—where endorsed candidates are expected to maintain a relationship with the organization—Raman stated she is comfortable with the arrangement. She indicated she would continue to welcome their partnership if elected, emphasizing that she works with many different organizations to shape the city.
Critics have raised concerns regarding the DSA-LA’s specific policy platform, which includes calls for the expropriation of privately owned housing, universal rent control, and the redirection of police funding toward civilian-led mental health and traffic interventions. The DSA-LA has stated that candidates seeking their endorsement are expected to commit to their program.
