Nithya Raman clarifies stance on LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell
Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman has clarified her stance regarding the future of LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell. While Raman previously suggested she would replace the police chief if elected, she stated in an interview with ABC 7 that removing McDonnell is not part of her 100-day agenda.
Raman emphasized that her immediate priority is restoring trust between law enforcement and the public. She noted that McDonnell’s current term extends until 2030 and indicated she would likely seek a new appointment toward the end of his tenure rather than immediately upon taking office. This shift in messaging follows concerns that a leadership change could be disruptive, particularly in the lead-up to the 2028 Olympics.
