Nithya Raman faces criticism over Los Angeles crosswalk project

Los Angeles City Councilmember and mayoral candidate Nithya Raman has faced significant online criticism following a social media post celebrating the completion of a new crosswalk.

Raman shared before-and-after photos of the intersection at Sunset Drive and Bates Street in Los Feliz, noting that the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council had requested the crosswalk in late 2025. However, critics pointed out that while new yellow stripes were applied, the underlying pavement remains cracked and broken.

Commentators and political figures mocked the post, citing the lengthy timeframe required to complete the task. Reports indicate the project took approximately eight to nine months to finish. Critics, including former mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt and various political commentators, characterized the effort as an example of government inefficiency, noting that the infrastructure itself was not repaired, only painted.
