Nithya Raman gains DSA endorsement in Los Angeles mayoral race

Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman has secured a significant endorsement from the Los Angeles chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) in her challenge against incumbent Mayor Karen Bass. The endorsement followed an online vote where Raman received over 60% support from the organization's members. The DSA-LA aims to use its organizing resources to unite tenants, union members, and immigrant communities behind Raman's campaign.

In the broader political landscape, Raman has also received backing from the Unite Here hospitality workers' union. Prediction markets, such as Kalshi and Polymarket, show Bass maintaining a lead with approximately 65% odds of winning, though market activity suggests the race is tightening as Raman gains momentum.

Simultaneously, faculty at the University of Southern California (USC) held a rally to support their unionization efforts. The rally featured support from both Mayor Bass and Councilmember Raman. USC continues to legally challenge the unionization vote, arguing that the bargaining unit is too broad and that faculty hold management rights through shared governance.
