NITI Aayog reviews development priorities for Jammu and Kashmir

A delegation from NITI Aayog, led by Member Dr. M. Srinivas, met with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Srinagar to discuss strategies for accelerating socio-economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation presented an assessment of the region’s development landscape, focusing on human resource development, economic opportunities, and infrastructure.

Key priorities identified include improving school education enrollment and learning outcomes, as well as strengthening industry-academia linkages to enhance employment. In healthcare, while medical education facilities have expanded, officials flagged the rising burden of metabolic and non-communicable diseases.

To boost the economy, the team recommended focusing on industrial clusters, MSMEs, and employment-intensive manufacturing. In the agricultural sector, the discussion emphasized reducing post-harvest losses through improved cold-chain infrastructure and stronger market linkages. Additionally, the meeting covered sustainable urban development, water security, and the expansion of tourism through improved connectivity and diverse offerings such as eco and rural tourism.
