Nitin Gadkari reports higher voter support from criminal areas

Indian Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has drawn attention following remarks made during an event in Nagpur regarding his voter demographics. Gadkari stated that he received a higher percentage of votes from criminal areas, the underworld, and red-light districts than from educated neighborhoods.

He noted that while he received approximately 70-75% of the vote in the city's larger, educated areas, his support reached 92% in areas associated with the underworld and red-light districts. Gadkari clarified that he maintains connections with many people, including those in the underworld, but emphasized that this does not imply support for their illegal activities or actions.

He attributed his support in these regions to infrastructure development, such as road construction, and various social works performed in those areas. Gadkari also touched upon the importance of credibility in democracy, business, and politics.
