Nitori launches AI-powered room simulation service
Nitori Co., Ltd. has launched a new AI-powered service called ‘Oheya no Shashin de Simulation’ (Room Photo Simulation) to assist customers with furniture arrangement and interior design. Developed in collaboration with Akari Inc., an AI startup originating from the University of Tokyo, the service became available for free on the Nitori app and website on August 5, 2026.
The tool allows users to upload photos of their rooms and virtually place 3D models of products to check size compatibility and aesthetic fit. Additionally, the AI can remove existing furniture from a photo, enabling users to visualize potential room makeovers. The service currently supports approximately 2,500 major items, including tables, sofas, rugs, and lighting fixtures, with plans for future expansion.
