Nitra Calvary pilgrimage triggers traffic restrictions
Police in Nitra have announced traffic restrictions near the Calvary area due to a traditional pilgrimage held in honor of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The event is scheduled for August 15 and 16.
Several access streets, including Kalvárska, Mariánska dolina, Misionárska, and Pútnická, will be closed to traffic. Organizers and police will assist with traffic direction. Designated parking areas are available under the highway bridge on Priemyselná Street, in front of the city and district offices, and along Ulica 8. mája near the hospital. Exceptions to the closures are made for persons with mobility impairments, who may be transported via private vehicle or taxi.
The religious program includes masses in both Slovak and Hungarian, litanies, a Way of the Cross, rosary prayers, adoration, and an organ concert. The festivities will culminate on Sunday, August 16, with a solemn mass celebrated by the Bishop of Nitra, Viliam Judák.
