Nitrux unveils modular Workspace Environment built on Hyprland

Nitrux has introduced its new Workspace Environment, a modular desktop stack designed to bridge the gap between minimal Wayland compositor configurations and traditional desktop environments like GNOME or KDE Plasma.

Built using Hyprland, QML, and MauiKit, the architecture consists of independent, single-purpose components that do not share a process lifecycle with the compositor. Key components include Valenz, a workspace bar for media controls, notifications, and system indicators; Marina, a new dock that replaces Crystal Dock and integrates with Hyprland for window grouping and workspace tracking; Workspace Settings, which replaces KDE System Settings to manage user accounts and networking without Plasma dependencies; and Desklock, a native QML lock screen.

Founder Uri Herrera describes the approach as a cohesive shell built from decoupled elements, providing a different desktop experience through a five-layer architecture.
