Niulinx launches autonomous taxi pilot in Milan

The Niulinx project has launched in Milan following a memorandum of understanding with the Municipality of Milan to test autonomous driving technology. Supported by European and national funds, the three-year experiment involves Level 4 SAE autonomous driving software being developed in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano. The initial phase utilizes a “robo-sharing” model using Fiat 500 vehicles, where the car moves autonomously at low speeds to a pickup point, after which the customer drives to their destination before the vehicle returns to an autonomous state for the next user.

In London, the deployment of autonomous vehicle services by companies such as Uber and Wayve is contributing to the broader rollout of self-driving technology in Europe. Industry experts suggest that the presence of robotaxis on public roads may increase consumer awareness and understanding of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This increased familiarity could assist the automotive repair sector in explaining the necessity of calibrating cameras and radar systems following vehicle repairs.
