Nizip hosts 3rd Olive Festival to mark 100th anniversary
The 3rd Nizip Olive Festival has commenced in the Nizip district of Gaziantep, Turkey, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the area attaining district status. Running from October 26 to November 1, the festival follows the theme “Zeugma’s Hidden Treasure” to highlight the region's ancient agricultural heritage and its branded olive oil products.
During the opening ceremonies, Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin announced major infrastructure projects for the district. These include the establishment of a new olive and pistachio market, as well as the construction of the world’s second-largest treatment plant for the Nizip Stream, following approval from the Ministry of Industry and Technology.
The event features olive harvesting demonstrations, sapling planting, a 100th-anniversary run, and tractor decorating competitions. Local officials and producers participated in a ceremonial harvest and a parade through the district to mark the occasion.
