NK Metalac inaugurates new floodlights at Bikara Sports Center
New floodlights worth 117,000 euros have been commissioned at the NK Metalac football club's Bikara Sports Center in Osijek. The project, which includes six 16-meter-high floodlights, was co-financed by the Osijek-Baranja County with 50,000 euros. The installation aims to improve training conditions and allow for evening use of the pitch.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Osijek Mayor Ivan Radić and Minister of Agriculture David Vlajčić. Mayor Radić noted that the project fulfills a decades-old goal for the club, which was founded in 1948 and focuses on youth development. He highlighted that the City of Osijek has invested 52 million euros in sports since 2021.
During the event, a commemorative plaque was unveiled in honor of Ante Šimleša, a former player and long-time club official who passed away in February. A memorial tournament in his name is planned for next year.
