NK Osijek and Eurokam ordered to pay 6.3 million euros

A non-final court ruling has ordered NK Osijek and its associated entity, Eurokam, to pay approximately 6.3 million euros plus interest. This legal development follows a decade of Hungarian-led ownership of the Croatian football club.

Lőrinc Mészáros, a close business associate of former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, took control of the club in 2016 alongside Ivan Meštrović. During this period, Hungarian capital provided significant stability, including the construction of the Opus Arena and improved infrastructure. However, the investment was often viewed through a political lens, with critics suggesting it was part of a broader strategy to expand Hungarian influence in neighboring countries.

The political landscape in Hungary has shifted following the transition from Viktor Orbán to the government led by Péter Magyar. The new administration has begun investigating business dealings and potential abuses from the previous era, adding new scrutiny to the club's financial and political connections.
