NK Pobrežje Maribor imposes sanctions after youth tournament brawl

NK Pobrežje Maribor has implemented severe disciplinary measures following a physical altercation between parents during the Piran Trophy 2026 international youth football tournament. The incident, which reportedly involved a fight between mothers and subsequently fathers from clubs in Maribor and Ljubljana, occurred following a match between Olimpija and NK Pobrežje.

In response to the misconduct, the club has excluded the child of one parent directly involved in the physical conflict from the club. Another parent received a warning and a ban from all club activities, including training and matches, until December 31, 2026. Additionally, the club has banned all parents and spectators from attending matches at their stadium for the remainder of 2026.

NK Pobrežje Maribor has also announced it will withdraw from all competition-oriented youth tournaments that prioritize results and rankings. The club is calling on other football organizations to organize youth tournaments without scorekeeping or team rankings to protect children from undue pressure and inappropriate behavior.
