Nkawie Circuit Court fines two men for stealing excavator parts

Two 20-year-old men, Kwame Asare and Bismark Kobby, have been fined GHS 6,000 each by the Nkawie Circuit Court after pleading guilty to conspiracy and stealing. The theft involved an excavator engine blade, a control board, and other items valued at GHS 144,000.

The incident occurred on September 5, 2026, at the residence of businessman Nana Osei Kwadwo in Bonteso, located in the Amansie West District. Following the theft, the complainant and neighbors conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of the two men, who were subsequently handed over to the Ahwerewa police.

During their caution statements, the defendants cited local hardship and hunger in Bonteso as the motivation for the crime, stating they intended to use the proceeds to buy food. They revealed the stolen items had been sold for GHS 6,500 to an individual identified as Obolo, who remains at large. The convicts face a three-month prison sentence each if they fail to pay the court-ordered fines.
