The Nkwanta North District Assembly has been summoned to appear before Parliament's Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources in Accra. The directive follows an oversight session where the Committee found the Assembly's explanation regarding its use of the 10% District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) allocation for water and sanitation projects to be unsatisfactory.
Ibrahimah Mohammed Zuweraa, the Member of Parliament for Salaga South and a Committee member, stated that the panel identified concerns requiring further clarification before reaching conclusions. She emphasized that the Committee's objective is to ensure funds produce tangible results rather than just confirming they were spent. Zuweraa also noted that the two quarterly DACF allocations for 2026 have already been released, cautioning officials against citing payment delays as a reason for implementation challenges.
This summons is part of a broader nationwide accountability drive by the Committee, which has been assessing nine district assemblies in the Oti Region. While addressing the scrutiny, Zuweraa noted that field monitoring has shown visible improvements in sanitation and water services across the Volta and Oti Regions over the past 18 months, though she acknowledged that challenges remain.
