Nöl Collective fashion label saved by Olivia Rodrigo commission

Singer Olivia Rodrigo’s commission of a custom garment has provided a financial lifeline to Nöl Collective, a Palestinian fashion label based in Ramallah that was facing potential closure.

Founder Yasmeen Mjalli reported that the brand was at a breaking point following significant logistical disruptions in the West Bank. A shipment of handwoven wool from India was detained and subsequently destroyed by Israeli customs, and attempts to source replacement materials in Jerusalem were thwarted by Israeli military road closures.

To fulfill Rodrigo’s request for the Daisy Chain Fields festival, artisans in Bethlehem and Ramallah produced a pale pink raw silk minidress featuring traditional Palestinian tatreez embroidery. Due to the inability of local couriers to ensure timely international delivery, the garment was reportedly transported to Los Angeles by two volunteers who carried it in their personal luggage.

Nöl Collective, established in 2020, focuses on preserving traditional Palestinian craftsmanship by working with women’s cooperatives and individual embroiderers across the West Bank and Gaza.
