NLC India Renewables wins 265 MW battery storage project in Haryana

NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL) has secured a contract for a 265 MW/530 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Haryana. The project was awarded through a tender managed by SJVN on behalf of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (UHBVNL).

The contract was awarded at a discovered tariff of Rs. 2.35 lakh/MW/month. The development is divided into two parts: a 250 MW/500 MWh installation (Project-1) and a 15 MW/30 MWh allocation (Project-2). The system is designed to provide two-hour standalone storage to help UHBVNL manage peak and off-peak electricity demand on an on-demand basis.

Project-1 will receive Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of up to Rs. 18 lakh/MWh, representing up to 30 percent of the capital cost, funded via the Power System Development Fund. The tender process, which began in July, concluded in approximately one month, reflecting the accelerating pace of grid-scale storage procurement in India.
